Choosing Your Stylist and Booking Your First Appointment at Artisan Hair Cary
Share
Most clients who book their first appointment with us at Artisan Hair Cary ask the same question before they arrive: what happens during that first visit? Here is the honest answer. You will meet your stylist, talk through what you want and what your hair can realistically do, and leave with a plan that fits your maintenance tolerance and your budget. No upselling, no surprises, and no walking out with something you did not ask for.
What Happens When You Book Your First Appointment
When you book online at our service menu, you will see every stylist's tier (Designer, Senior Stylist, Master Stylist, or Owner) along with their specialties and price point. Pricing is tiered and transparent, so you know what a service costs before you choose. You pick the stylist whose work and price fit your needs, then book the service you think you need.
A Designer-level cut starts lower than a cut with Rob, who has over 25 years of experience and trained at Sassoon Academy, worked alongside Nick Arrojo as a former member of the Arrojo Art Team, and holds advanced certifications from Wella, L'Oreal Professionnel, Redken, and Bumble and Bumble.
If you are not sure which service to book, call us before you schedule. We would rather spend five minutes on the phone walking you through the difference between a balayage and a full foil than have you book the wrong thing and sit through a consultation where we have to explain why the service you paid for is not the service your hair needs.
What to Bring to Your First Appointment
Bring photos of what you want, photos of what you do not want, and a realistic sense of how much time you are willing to spend on your hair at home. If you show us a Pinterest board of lived-in balayage and then tell us you wash your hair every day and never use a purple shampoo, we are going to have a conversation about what that color will look like in six weeks. That is not us saying no, that is us managing expectations so you do not leave disappointed.
If you have had previous color work, box dye, or a smoothing service in the last six months, tell us before we start. Hair history changes everything. A stylist who does not ask about your color history before they mix a formula is guessing, and guessing is how you end up with color correction three weeks later.
The Consultation: What We Ask You
Every service at Artisan starts with a consultation, even if you booked a cut. We are going to ask:
- What do you want to walk out with today?
- How much time do you spend styling your hair at home?
- How often are you willing to come back for maintenance?
- What products do you currently use?
- Have you had any chemical services in the last year?
- Do you have any allergies or scalp sensitivities we should know about?
Those questions are not small talk. They tell us whether the service you booked is the service you need, and whether your expectations match what your hair can do. If you want beige blonde and your hair is naturally a level 3 with years of box dye buildup, we are not going to get you there in one session. We will tell you that in the consultation, show you what we can do today, and map out a plan for the next two or three appointments if you want to commit to the process.
If the service you booked is not the right fit, we will tell you what is. We are not trying to upsell you into a longer service. We are trying to make sure you leave with hair that looks the way you thought it would when you made the appointment.
How Our Stylist Tiers Work and Which One You Should Book
Our team is tiered by experience, training, and demand. A Designer-level stylist is someone early in their career who has completed foundational training and is building their book. A Senior Stylist has years of experience and holds certifications from at least one major brand. A Master Stylist has advanced training from multiple academies, specializes in complex color or cutting techniques, and books further out because clients request them by name. Rob, our Owner, has over 25 years on the floor and credentials from Sassoon, Toni and Guy, and the Arrojo Art Team. He books the furthest out.
If you are new to the salon and you do not know who to book with, start with a Senior Stylist. You will get someone experienced enough to handle most services, and the price point is in the middle of our range. If you want to work with a Master Stylist or Rob, expect to book two to three weeks out, sometimes more depending on the season and the service.

What to Expect on the Day of Your Appointment
We are located at 5039 Arco Street in the Alston Town Center in West Cary, just off Highway 540 and 55. Parking is in front of the building. When you walk in, check in at the front desk. Your stylist will come get you within a few minutes.
The consultation happens before we start. Your stylist will look at your hair, ask the questions listed above, and confirm the plan before they touch a brush or a bowl. If the plan changes based on what they see, they will tell you what the adjustment is, why it is necessary, and what it will cost. You can say yes or no. We are not going to start a service you did not agree to.
Most color services take two to four hours depending on the technique. A precision cut with a blow-dry is 60 to 90 minutes. Extensions can run three to five hours for a full install. If you have a hard stop, tell your stylist at the beginning of the appointment. We would rather know up front than rush at the end.
How to Reschedule or Cancel If You Need To
Life happens. If you need to reschedule, do it as soon as you know. Our cancellation policy is posted on the booking page. Late cancellations or no-shows mean another client who wanted that time slot could not book it, and our stylists lose income. We ask for at least 24 hours notice. If you cancel within 24 hours or you no-show, there is a fee.
If you are running late, call us. We will do what we can to keep your appointment, but if you are more than 15 minutes late and the next client is already scheduled, we might have to reschedule you. It is not personal. It is logistics.
What Happens After Your First Visit
At the end of your appointment, your stylist will walk you through at-home maintenance: what products to use, how often to wash, when to come back for a touch-up or a refresh. If you booked color, we will give you a toner schedule and a product recommendation for keeping the tone where it is. If you booked a cut, we will tell you when to come back based on how fast your hair grows and how much shape you want to maintain.
You can rebook before you leave, or you can book your next appointment online when you are ready. Most of our color clients book their next session before they walk out because the stylists they want fill up fast. If you wait until the day you need a touch-up, the stylist you want might not have availability for another two weeks.
Frequently Asked Questions
What should I bring to my first appointment at Artisan?
Bring photos of what you want, your hair history (previous color, treatments, or chemical services in the last six months), and a realistic idea of how much time you spend on your hair at home. If you use any styling products or tools regularly, mention those too.
How do I know which stylist tier is right for me?
If you want advanced color work, precision cutting, or you have specific technique requests (hand-painted balayage, lived-in color, dimensional blonding), book a Senior Stylist, Master Stylist, or Rob. If you need a solid cut or color and price is a bigger factor, start with a Designer. You can always move up a tier if you want more experience next time.
Can I get a consultation before booking a full service?
Yes. Call us and ask to schedule a consultation. We do them for most color clients anyway, and we would rather spend 10 minutes walking through what is realistic than have you book a service that is not the right fit.
How far in advance do I need to book at Artisan?
It depends on the stylist and the service. Designers and Senior Stylists usually have availability within a week. Master Stylists and Rob book out two to three weeks, sometimes more during busy seasons. If you want a specific stylist, book as soon as you know when you are free.
What if I need to reschedule my appointment?
Call us or reschedule online as soon as you know. We ask for at least 24 hours notice. Late cancellations or no-shows are subject to a fee because another client could have taken that slot.
What is your pricing structure?
Pricing is tiered by stylist level and listed on our service menu. A Designer-level cut starts lower than a Master Stylist cut. All services are a la carte. Cuts include a blow-dry. You know what you are paying before you sit down.
What happens if I do not like the result?
Tell your stylist before you leave. If something is not right, we will fix it that day if we can, or we will schedule a correction appointment at no charge. We would rather know immediately than have you leave unhappy and not come back.
